More than 100 neuropathology cases have been discussed on the Virasoft platform with hundreds of pathologists, pathology trainees and medical students
NEW YORK, April 24, 2023 – Since 2020, Virasoft has been organizing a monthly webinar series of neuropathology coordinated by Tarik Tihan, MD, PhD, and the Turkish Neuropathology Working Group of the Turkish Pathology Federation. The series are being moderated by Virasoft co-CEO Samet Ayalti, and Prof. Tihan discusses selected neuropathology cases and diagnostic challenges. Participants also bring along difficult cases from their practices for consultation and the cases are resolved collectively. The meetings are held on the Zoom platform and the pathology cases are reviewed on the virtual microscopy platform provided by Virasoft. Participation is open to all pathologists and pathology trainees in Turkey and is announced on the Pathology Federation's website. Average participation is 50 pathologists and there has been more than 18 sessions since the inaugural session in 2020.
Prof. Tihan mentioned that since 2020, more than 100 neuropathology cases have been discussed on the Virasoft platform with hundreds of pathologists, pathology trainees and medical students. He also suggested that these webinar sessions have contributed to the professional development of numerous young pathologists and help develop their knowledge and diagnostic skills. The participation of the Neuropathology Working Group and the Federation of Turkish Pathology Societies and Anatolian Pathology Societies also allowed many experts from various universities contribute to the webinars and help solve the difficult cases presented by the participants.
Mr Ayalti emphasized that Virasoft is planning to expand the series which was originally started in Turkish, globally.

Tarik Tihan MD, PhD is a professor of pathology and neuropathology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) specializing in the diseases of the brain and spinal cord tumors. He leads multiple research collaborations and research projects aimed at better defining brain tumor entities, based on their molecular signatures and novel diagnostic or prognostic markers. Prof. Tihan also participated in the World Health Organization's classification attempts in tumors of the central nervous system, endocrine system, and pediatric brain tumors. He works in close collaboration with many neuropathologists in Turkey, United States and across the world. His main focus is to provide equity and empowerment of low and middle income countries in the face of ever widening gap between the global south and the global north.
